Kudos to Pender County School Administrators for reviewing books that may inappropriate for minors. What is missing from the article are any excerpts from the texts that make parents and citizens question why are they available in the schools at all. They focus on books like The Bluest Eye and Slaughterhouse Five. Both have been used in college English courses in the past. Does that mean they are appropriate for minors in middle and high school? The article could have honed in on the Sarah Maas books in the list or the graphic novel Gender Queer or Forever. We are pleased with the actions from Pender Co School admin and look forward to hearing their findings. And for the record, we are not book banners, we are child advocates.
